Costa Rica offers some of the best sport fishing in the world and fishing is a huge part of  the tourism industry for the country.

Fishing is good in Costa Rica year round but here is a breakdown of the seasons and what you can expect:

Sailfish: April to September, most fish from 90 to 100 LBS range

Black Marlin: April to August with a peak two week run in May, Most fish from 300 to 400 LBS range

with some  over 700 LBS

Blue and Stripped Marlin: December to March. Blues from 200 to 300 LBS and stripped usually 120 to 175 LBS

Roosterfish: Caught year round, most from 30 to 50 LBS with many up to 80 LBS

Mahi (Dorado): Spring to late fall, run anywhere from 5 to 50 LBS

Yellow Fin Tuna: May through November, most are 10 to 20 LBS with some up to 100 LBS

Cubera, Snapper and Amerberjack: Year round

Although most people head to the Pacific for it’s fishing, the Atlantic Ocean is known for it’s big tarpon and snook.

The charter boats can range from  a 26 ft. center-consoles to a 60 ft. luxury yacht.

Charters usually give two options:

  • Inshore – snapper, snook and rooster fish
  • Offshore – enter the deeper water for the “big ones”.

and include the following:

  • Fishing License
  • Fishing Gear
  • English speaking, bi-lingual crew
  • Meals and drinks (including liquor and beer) onboard the boat
